오션파크로 떠나는 즐거운 여행에 필요한 모든 것
Ocean Park celebrates the birthdays of giant pandas An An, Ying Ying and Le Le. An An, already the world’s longest-living male giant panda under human care, has become a centenarian in human years as he turns 33 this month. In addition, the younger panda duo Le Le and Ying Ying will be celebrating their 14th birthday today (8 August) and next Friday (16 August) respectively. The Park is offering a variety of panda-themed merchandise and desserts on designated days in August for guests to join in the celebrations.
Giant pandas in the wild can live up to 20 years on average, while lifespans of those under human care can reach 30 years, making 33-year-old An An a rare “centenarian panda”. An An’s eye condition remains stable after the successful surgery to treat lens luxation associated with glaucoma in his right eye last June. The Park’s veterinary team has been treating An An with eye drops along with other medication to ensure his eye health. Besides, An An receives quality medical care for common geriatric conditions including high blood pressure, arthritis and cataract.
Meanwhile, Ying Ying attempted natural mating with Le Le during the breeding season earlier in April and was artificially inseminated. Ying Ying has been displaying typical pregnancy symptoms since late July including reduced appetite and prolonged rest time. These symptoms, however, could also be indicators of pseudo-pregnancy. The Park will closely observe the hormonal level and behavioural changes of Ying Ying, and inform the public of any latest news.
The gestation period of giant pandas lasts between 72 and 324 days, and pregnancy confirmation could only be detected by ultrasound scan earliest 14 to 17 days before the birth of a giant panda cub. Experts from the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda in Wolong provided on-site assistance at Ocean Park during the panda breeding season in April in hopes of increasing Ying Ying’s chance of pregnancy.
An An, Ying Ying and Le Le all love bamboo, purple sweet potato, carrot, sar kort, apple and pear, so the Park’s panda care team teamed up with Häagen-Dazs™ to present each of them a special trio-layer, colourful icy birthday cake made with these ingredients today to celebrate their birthdays. The pandas could not wait to savour the mouth-watering birthday cakes that proudly showcase their names and ages in ice craft!
Moreover, guests can enjoy 20% discount off* upon any purchase of HK$500 or above at the Park’s souvenir shops Panda Kingdom Shop and Sichuan Treasures on 8 August and 16 August. Delightful panda-themed desserts like panda butter cookies and panda chocolate cupcakes will be available at Aqua City Bakery from now until 18 August. Make sure you do not miss out on these special panda offers as they are time-limited!
*The panda birthday celebration offer is not applicable to discounted products, fixed price products, “Get Closer to the Animals” programmes, personalised services or vending machines.
