The Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau (CSTB) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is organising the “Giant Panda Twin Cubs Naming Competition” ("the Competition”) and appointed the Ocean Park Corporation (OPC) as the co-organiser. The giant panda “Ying Ying” gifted by the Central Government in 2007 gave birth to giant panda twin cubs at Ocean Park on 15 August 2024. Visitors can visit the twin cubs at “Giant Panda Adventure” in Ocean Park starting from 16 February 2025. Since the birth of the twin cubs, they have been nicknamed “Elder Sister” and “Little Brother” by the public, fully demonstrating the love and care from the people of Hong Kong. While their nicknames were retained, a naming competition was held so that all Hong Kong residents could participate by suggesting a pair of names for the twin cubs through observing their physical features and characteristics. By participating in the Competition, we can all share the joy brought by these adorable twins. Putonghua pinyin of the selected Chinese names will be adopted as the English names of the twin cubs.
The Competition was open to all Hong Kong residents for submission of name proposals on 15 February 2025 (12:00:00) by the deadline on 7 March 2025 (23:59:59).
