Ocean Park’s Chinese New Year Float Brings Old Hong Kong Scenes to Life Park Mascots Whiskers and Mark to lead the festivities

2019-01-21

Ocean Park will celebrate the Year of the Pig at the hallmark International Chinese New Year Night Parade hosted by Hong Kong Tourism Board on 5 February 2019 with a float designed to mirror Old Hong Kong Presented by Kee Wah Bakery, one of the Park's iconic attractions. The Park's adorable mascots Whiskers and Mark will lead performers in retro costumes to parade and dance through the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui, and deliver fun and New Year greetings to everyone.

Featuring historical tenement buildings, archways and food stalls, Ocean Park's nostalgic float brings to life Hong Kong in the 1970s. The beloved Ocean Park cable car adorns the colourful float as swaying lanterns atop a food stall signage in 1970s-style design and typography. The Park’s local favourite eateries, namely Michelin-recommended Wing Lai Yuen, Michelin-recommended Street Food eatery Mammy Pancake, famous Hong Kong Style Milk Tea brand, KamCha and Cross Cafe will also be on display, bringing to all a feast to the eyes this Chinese New Year.

Whiskers and Mark, the Park's mascots, will march down the parade route accompanied by giant inflatables of the Park's animal ambassadors, 50 performers comprising 30 students from Island Dance School and performers on stilts. The Ocean Park parade will also see a martial arts team present a "roller-coaster" dragon dance in which the Park's iconic VR Mine Train transforms into a flying dragon to thrill the crowd.

Rose Yeung, Marketing Director of Ocean Park, said "As Hong Kong's home-grown theme park resort, Ocean Park has been creating unforgettable memories for Hong Kong people and tourists for more than 40 years. This year, we are taking our Old Hong Kong attraction to the heart of the city with a nostalgic-theme Chinese New Year float. Coupled with the spectacular parade that will be delivered by our highly skilled performers and dancers, we are set to immerse everyone in Chinese New Year festivities and Throwback Thursday vibes."
