Ocean Park New Virtual Programmes Enrich Children’s Summer Break

2022-03-08

Ocean Park launches a series of fun online learning programmes for young children this March and April. The programmes integrate elements of nature, green living, magic and five senses discovery to enable children to make good use of their summer break while staying at home to fight against the pandemic.

Ivan Wong, Chief Executive of Ocean Park said, “Leveraging our team’s strengths in edutainment, we hope our new online programme will support parents under the current COVID-19 situation to keep children entertained while learning and staying safe at home.”

From home to the world of magic
Education ambassadors at Ocean Park will bring children aged five to eight two interactive magic classes via Zoom on 11 and 12 March, during which children will learn about green living. Professional magicians will guide children in performing tricks by reusing everyday waste, helping them train the muscles on their little hands and explore their hidden performance talent. Participants will also get the opportunity to interact with their tutors through live polls and learn about animal fun facts. Seats are limited, so sign up now! Simply visit the Ocean Park Facebook Page (facebook.com/hkoceanpark) for the latest information.

Join Nature Guardians on a journey of discovery with the five senses
Children can also enjoy five senses activities on the Park’s popular YouTube education channel, Redd’s Nature Play Party, which has recorded cumulative views of more than ten million since its launch. A new video series on the channel will lead children to discover nature with their five senses and learn about animals’ features. Children will also study the physical phenomenon of different materials and explore the versatility of upcycling.

The channel has recently added interactive elements for children to share short videos of their own discovery based on each episode’s topics.  Video submissions can be made via WhatsApp and selected clips will be featured in upcoming episodes. Parents can also check out the Play & Learn at Home — Redd’s Nature Play Party’s Weekly Playlist on Facebook to plan their children's learning schedules by browsing through the refreshed list of recommended videos each week.

Sino Group partnership offers online learning programmes for underprivileged children
In addition, Ocean Park is joining hands with Sino Group and its philanthropic arm, the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Limited, to extend its online learning activities to 10,000 children aged three to eight from underprivileged families to participate in various activities while staying at home during this early summer break. The four-week course will introduce the concept of biodiversity and knowledge about animals through storytelling and games, and feature elements of the interactive technology experience hub Explorer R and Explorer R workshops. The programme also comes with live interactive sessions.

Explorer R and Explorer R workshops are supported by the Tourism Commission.
