The Central Government gifted another pair of giant pandas to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), fully demonstrating its care and support for the HKSAR. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which makes this gift even more special.
The two giant pandas arrived in Hong Kong on 26 September 2024 and have become new members of our family. To welcome these two giant pandas, the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of the HKSAR Government is organising the “Giant Panda Naming Competition”, and has appointed Ocean Park Corporation as the co-organiser. The current names of the two giant pandas are “An An” (male giant panda) and “Ke Ke” (female giant panda). All Hong Kong residents are welcome to exercise creativity and suggest meaningful new names for the giant pandas that highlight their characteristics. Participants are also welcome to propose keeping the current names of the two giant pandas with an explanation of the meaning of the names. The Putonghua Pinyin of the selected Chinese names will be adopted as the English names of the giant pandas.
The competition is open to all Hong Kong residents from 2 October 2024 with submission deadline on 27 October 2024, 23:59:59. Each person can only submit one entry. Selected participants will receive fabulous prizes. Participation of all eligible members of the public is welcome.
