This summer, Ocean Park will be transformed into Hong Kong’s biggest and best nature playground. The Park is calling out for curious families to go on a fun-filled and intriguing adventure with Redd to discover the wonders of nature!
Explorer R, the new technology experience hub, along with a fascinating array of additional conservation and education elements that will get families returning to the Park again and again, are officially launched at the Park’s Whiskers Harbour and other designated locations at the Waterfront area today.
At its inauguration ceremony, the Explorer R “sailboat” set sail, and was officiated by Edward Yau Tang-wah, GBS, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development; Eliza Lee Man-ching, JP, Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Commerce, Industry and Tourism); and Vivian Sum Fong-kwang, JP, Commissioner for Tourism in company with Paulo Pong, JP, Deputy Chairman; Joe Wong Chi-cho, JP, Chief Executive and Ysanne Chan, Managing Director of Ocean Park.
“Ocean Park is dedicated to conservation and education, and what better way than to give families the biggest and best nature playground where exploration, entertainment and learning all come together in a single venue,” said Paulo Pong, Deputy Chairman of Ocean Park. “Children will now get to learn about nature and conservation in a much more creative, experiential and tech-powered way that’s never been done on this scale before at the Park. We invite families to come on board for an expansive conservation and education journey that awaits them every day at Ocean Park!”
Explorer R technology experience hub reimagines interactive edutainment for kids
The spotlight for the playground, Explorer R, is a technology-driven attraction that applies a stimulating mix of virtual games and interactive fun play to spark children’s imagination and scientific thinking through experiential learning. By creating their own AI SuperAnimal and going through the “think, try and modify” process with Redd, young explorers will be motivated to figure out how the body parts of animals actually help them adapt to their habitats.
Special missions for Nature Guardians of various age groups
Continuing their journey, children can join a series of not-to-be-missed Explorer R workshops. Those aged two to five can join the Camouflage Kids! and Ninja in Nature with their parents. Through fun games, they will find out more on local biodiversity and observe how animals protect themselves from predators using camouflage.
For older children aged six to 11, The Sea Land Expedition will surely ignite their curiosity and creativity through half-day programmes that take them to different locations of the Park – from Rainforest, North Pole Encounter to an African Adventure to observe animals up-close. A brand new coding session will also be included.
Stepping out from Explorer R, kids can visit Explorer Stops located at different locations inside and outside Whiskers Harbour, and conduct special missions to observe and explore nature using their five senses. Families can also sign up for four Whiskers Harbour Maker Workshops hosted by the popular Whiskers Village Team for some DIY upcycling activities while enjoying quality family time and becoming more eco-friendly together.
The visual eco-journey Upsized Planet at Waterfront Plaza is another not-to-be-missed attraction, where visitors will go through the mysterious shrinking tunnel, and find themselves in an incredible world of huge animals and plants. The walk among vibrant supersized butterflies, frogs and birds among the tall grass is set to leave visitors enchanted and offer many Instagrammable photo opportunities.
